The dtic runs several film incentives: the South African Film and TV Production and Co-production incentive, the Foreign Film and TV Production and Post-production incentive, and the SA Emerging Black Filmmakers incentive. Each rebates a percentage (25% to 35%) of qualifying South African production expenditure once the production is complete and audited.
Minimum budgets apply (lower for the emerging black filmmakers window) and applications must be lodged before principal photography. Provincial film commissions in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape add their own top-ups.
