Before (or instead of) the grant, NYDA pays approved service providers to do the things a start-up cannot afford: writing a bankable business plan, registering the company with CIPC, designing branding and a website, and basic financial and marketing training. Mentors are assigned for six to twelve months.

Because a grant application without a proper plan is usually rejected, most successful grant recipients go through this support first. It also unlocks NYDA's market linkage programme, which introduces youth businesses to corporate and government buyers.

Who qualifies

South African aged 18 to 35 with a business idea or a business under three years old.
