Playhouse Photographic Studio, owned by Maggie Laganparsad, opened on 26TH May 1996. It was a bold step for a woman to leave the employ of Modisons, to take the challenge of establishing and opening her own One Hour Photo Lab and Studio in the Durban CBD. With R10 000 as capital from her personal savings accumulated over the years of being employed and with one camera only, Maggie started her road as an entrepreneur/free-lance photographer. With no former tertiary education, her existing knowledge of photography and requirements of running a business had prospered by teaching herself! The road travelled was long and harsh within an industry dominated by men and a media dictated by white supremacy.
