If you have not yet applied for renewal of your firearm licences, your now have a serious problem! According to the Firearms Control Act, from 1st July 2009 the licences of all firearms which were not renewed or for which renewal were not applied for, are invalid and those firearms must have been handed in to the Police or handed over to the ownership of a gunsmith. Meanwhile, two separate legal actions are currently before the courts regarding the consitutional validity of certain aspects of the Act and the payment of compensation for firearms which are surrendered in terms of the Act. Members will be kept up to date on developments.
