BBSDP pays 80% of an approved project up to R1 million for black-owned small businesses that want to become competitive suppliers. Most of the money (typically up to R800 000) goes to tools, machinery and equipment; the rest (up to R200 000) covers business development services such as certification, systems, marketing and training.
The business must have traded for at least a year and sit within the programme's turnover band (roughly R250 000 to R35 million). You contribute 20% of the project cost yourself, and the grant is paid to suppliers after approval and inspection.
Who qualifies
At least 51% black-owned and managed; trading for 12+ months; turnover between R250 000 and R35 million; tax compliant; the project must improve competitiveness or supplier readiness.
How to apply
Apply through SEDFA (the programme moved from the dtic to DSBD and now sits with SEDFA). A business advisor will help assemble the project plan and three quotations per item.
