uMnotho (wealth) is the NEF's growth and transformation fund. It funds acquisition finance for black investors buying into existing companies, expansion capital for black-owned businesses that are already trading profitably, new venture finance for larger projects, and capital-markets and liquidity products for listed and pre-listing companies.

Deals run from R2 million to R75 million and are structured to suit the transaction, including equity, mezzanine and senior debt. The fund expects proper financial statements, management depth and a clear exit or repayment route.

Who qualifies

Black-owned or black-led transaction resulting in at least 50.1% black ownership; established business with financial statements; South African-registered.
