<p>The mission of the Eastern Cape Liquor Board (ECLB) is to regulate the retail sales and micromanufacturing of liquor, taking into account community considerations.</p><p>The Entity's strategic goals are to ensure that only fully compliant license applications are processed within time frames stipulated by the Act; minimise non-compliance by licensed liquor traders and the occurrence of illegal liquor trading; consistently apply the provisions of the Act relating to social responsibility to all liquor traders; ensure the ECLB conducts its business in a manner that is consistent with all principles of good governance; and deliver reliable and consistent back office support to the core functions of ECLB.</p><p>Legislative mandates encourage and support the liquor industry in the management and reduction of the socio-economic and other costs of excessive alcohol consumption by creating an environment in which the entry of new participants into the liquor industry is facilitated; appropriate steps are taken against those selling liquor outside the regulatory framework; those involved in the liquor industry may attain and maintain adequate standards of service delivery; participation by ward committees and communities in the consideration of applications for registration certificates is provided for; and the particular realities confronting the liquor industry in the province can be addressed. </p>
